Newsletter Autumn Term 2008
04 September 2008
Dear Parents
I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday. It was lovely to see the children eager to start the new school year and we are all looking forward to a busy and exciting term ahead. Everyone has made me feel so welcome and I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks. Please feel free to come and see me if there is anything at all you would like to discuss.
New Pupils
We welcome our new reception children to our school this term. I hope that all our new families enjoy a happy and successful partnership with Compton School.
Harvest Festival
I wanted to remind you about our Harvest Service on Sunday 28th September in church at 11 am. The children will have plenty of opportunity to take part in the service and we hope to combine this event with a family picnic after the service in the school grounds.
Our Harvest gifts will be shared between two local organisations this year again. The fresh produce will be taken by some of our Year 6 pupils to Compton House, a residential care home. The tinned produce will be collected by Winchester Basics Bank to help local families in need.
More details of Harvest arrangements will follow shortly.
Curriculum Letters
These will be sent home next Friday to provide information about what your child will be learning this term. The letters also contain important information about the different routines and the timetable within each class.
Playtime Games
If anyone has any popular card games such as top trumps that they are happy to donate to school to use for playtimes we would be really grateful.
School Clubs
Letters will be coming out shortly regarding school clubs. If there are clubs that you feel you could help with please contact the school office.
Proud of Assembly
We begin our Proud of Assemblies again this week, at 3 pm on Friday. We’d be delighted to see you if you can attend. Proud of Assemblies are a lovely way to find out what the children have been doing in the week and celebrate achievement.
Parent Consultations
The first parent consultations will take place on 2nd of October. A separate letter will follow shortly. The Parent Consultations for the Autumn and Spring Terms form part of the five day closures for the school year. The children will need to be collected from school at 12.15 pm.
School Photographs
Individual photographs will be taken of all the children in the morning of 26th September. More information will follow shortly.
Instrumental Tuition
Lessons begin next week. Those children who have not taken part in instrumental lessons before may use the school instruments in the first instance to see how they get on. We do only have one flute, clarinet and violin in school so they will not be able to take these home to practise. Information about purchasing/renting instruments was included in the letter sent home before the summer break to those children to whom we were able to offer tuition.
New Boiler
We are very pleased that the new central heating boiler will be installed between 5th September and the 3rd October hopefully just before it gets really cold! Disruption will be minimal as access to the boiler does not involve entering the main school site. However there may be one or two commercial vehicles parked in the lane and we ask for your patience with this.
Parent Helpers
We will once again be asking for volunteers to provide help and support in school. This is a real benefit to the children and a great help to the staff too. This support will be from the spring term once the children have settled into their classroom routines. A letter will follow shortly (parents of reception children have already had this letter).
A Change for Class 2
Mrs McDonnell the Class 2 teacher has changed her name. She is now Miss Walker, so we will all be trying our best to remember her new name, although I am sure she will forgive us if we forget sometimes.
